Join Sarah as she takes you through watercolour painting and colour practice .
We’ll begin in week 1 by exploring paints, papers, brushes, and basic techniques, creating colour charts, wheels, and line libraries before applying these skills to simple fruit studies. In week 2, we’ll deepen our understanding of warm/cool colours, transparency, and value, using exercises with shapes, leaves, and botanicals. Week 3 focuses on building swatch charts and painting still life, while week 4 introduces texture techniques like salt and reliefs finishing with abstract washes and a landscape.
Each session begins with hands-on colour exploration, followed by creating artworks that put your new knowledge into practice with themes of fruit, still life, botanicals and landscapes. You’ll learn key techniques such as colour mixing, saturation, layering, blending, value, and application.
While watercolour is the medium of focus, the colour theory and colour mixing skills gained can be applied to any painting practice.
