Join Sarah as she takes you through working with an array of materials to draw and paint still life and botanicals.
Over the course of four sessions, Sarah will guide you through the fundamentals of drawing and painting botanical and still life compositions. In week 1 we will start with into drawing exercises such as blind contour, negative space, non-dominant hand, memory, and inside-out shading, finishing with charcoal fruit studies. Week 2 focuses on memory drawing alongside an introduction to watercolour and pastel techniques, applying both to botanical subjects. In week 3 you’ll explore upside-down explores value chart practice, shape drawing in ink, and expressive still life painting in ink. Week 4 focuses on value studies, shape-based drawing in ink, and developing expressive still life paintings using ink.
You will learn techniques such as accurate observation, shading, line, tone and composition.
With a focus on appreciating nature and making time to play, this course makes the beloved style of botanical and still life art accessible to all. The hope is that each participant will find their own way within the classes, and have the confidence to go forward incorporating still life botanical and still life drawing into their daily lives.
This course is aimed at beginners who want a taster in drawing or intermediates who want a different take on their creative processes. Sarah's practice blends traditional and non traditional approaches to still life and botanical art - no experience in drawing or painting is required.
